Carolina Style Pulled Pork Sliders

Carolina Style Pulled Pork Sliders

What is it about sliders that makes them taste ten times more wonderful than a regular-sized sandwich? It’s the little cuteness factor isn’t it. Like mini pencils and Mini Coopers and mini little humans (babies). There’s just something cute about little stuff. And delicious. For example, ten mini cheesecake bite tastes way better than a regular sized slice of cheesecake.

These Carolina Style Pulled Pork Sliders are so easy to prepare. It’s basically one of those set it and forget it recipes (aka my favorite) and requires hardly any work at all! Let the slow cooker do the work! The pork is so juicy and tender and bursting with Carolina flavors. A little sweet with a little tang. I love it. And I am NOT  a cole slaw person, but I love love love this slaw. Pile it high my friends, pile it high.

  • 4-6 pound boston butt, or pork loin roast (boneless)
first sauce
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar
  • ¾ cup ketchup
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
second sauce
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons barbecue sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups thinly sliced green cabbage
  • 2 cups thinly sliced red cabbage (may sub broccoli slaw, or other packaged cole slaw without dressing)
  • ¼ cup mayo + more for slider buns
  • 2 teaspoons white sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  1. Place onion slices in the bottom of your slow cooker. Place pork roast on top of onions. Whisk together ingredients for first sauce. Pour first sauce over roast. Cover and cook on low 8 hours or on high 4 hours.
  2. Whisk together all ingredients for second sauce. 30 minutes before serving, remove pork from slow cooker and shred with two forks. Drain juices and onions from slow cooker. Return shredded pork to slow cooker. Pour second sauce over pork and stir to combine. Cover and cook 30 minutes longer.
  3. Prepare the slaw by tossing sliced cabbage with mayo, white sugar, cayenne pepper, and salt. Chill until ready to serve. Slice slider buns in half crosswise. To prepare sliders, spread about 1 tablespoon mayo onto one half of each slider bun. Top with shredded pork (about ¼-1/3 cup) and top pork with slaw.

I make a super similar slider and agree, they’re so much better small! (Mine were just happenstance miniature because those were the only gluten-free rolls I could find that day – haha). Yours are too cute!

I made these this weekend and had some really good feedback …especially on the the slaw. I took some liberties and added a bit more cayenne pepper to the mix and a bunch of folks asked me for the recipe or commented on how good it was. So thanks for the idea it was super simple and easy to do (i plan on smoking the picnic next time). One thing I wish I could have done was found some sliders that looked like yours in the photos. My local grocer only had processed crappy ones :( which i think took away from the overall deliciousness, but not by much. So thanks, it was delicious.
