Why This Recipe Works
An Easy Classic: You really can’t go wrong with a baked potato as a side to accompany all of your favorite proteins, or even as the main meal! The annoying thing about baked potatoes is how long they take to make in the oven! That is why my new favorite way to make them is in the air fryer. Air fryer baked potatoes have a crispy skin and tender and fluffy center just like they should be!
Minimal Ingredients: You only need three, that’s right three, ingredients to make these! So you will definitely have everything you need for this recipe on hand already. Then, it is totally up to you what fixins you top these potatoes off with! You can make as many potatoes as you want, but this is a great option for a single baked potato in the air fryer!
Ingredients
- Potatoes: I like to use russet potatoes in this recipe. You can also use Yukon gold, but keep in mind that they will take less time to cook since they are smaller!
- Olive Oil: You can coat these taters in olive oil or simply spray them with cooking spray, whichever you prefer!
- Salt: Don’t be shy with the salt! The salty, crispy skin really makes these air fryer baked potatoes even more delicious.
Here’s How to Make It
Step by Step Instructions
- Prep the Potatoes: Prick the potatoes with the tip of a sharp knife and rub the skins in olive oil or spray them with cooking spray. Season well with salt. (photos 1-2)
- Bake: Bake the potatoes in the air fryer at 400 for 40-50 minutes, turning over halfway to ensure an evenly crispy skin. Test them with a sharp knife to make sure that they’re cook through at the 40 minute mark. (photos 3-4)
Expert Tips
- Give each potato space! Make sure to give each potato at least one inch of space around it in order to cook and crisp up nicely. You might have to cook just one or two potatoes at a time depending on the size of your air fryer!
- Cooking time will vary! The cooking time depends on the size of the potato. If you have a particularly large potato, it will take around 50-55 minutes. But you can check on the potatoes as you go and see if the center is tender with a knife.
- Scrub ’em good! Before cooking the potatoes, you want to make sure to scrub them up with warm water to make sure that all of the dirt is gone. Since we aren’t peeling the potatoes and we want to eat that crispy skin, this step is important!
- Don’t wrap them in foil! It is not necessary to wrap these potatoes in foil. It will also result in a less crispy potato, so I don’t recommend it.

So if I want to cook 6 potatoes I would have to have my air fryer on for 2 hrs. and 40 minutes? Then keep them warm in the oven?
That would depend on how big/small the potatoes are and the size of your air fryer. And if the potatoes aren’t going to be eaten soon after coming out of the air fryer, keeping them in the oven is a great way to help keep them warm.
