Why This Recipe Works
Easy to Make: This fantasy fudge is super easy to make, even if you have never made fudge before! Fudge is a beginner’s form of candy that is simple to cook up and so impressive. Some say that fudge was originally created as an accident, after a failed attempt to make caramel! But this mistake was so delicious, it has become a classic dessert, especially around the holidays.
A Family Favorite: After making this homemade marshmallow fluff fudge, it will definitely become a family favorite! Everyone will love it! Make it a tradition, fantasy fudge is a wonderful addition to a Christmas cookie platter.
Ingredients
- Butter: For a creamy, flavorful fudge!
- Sugar: Sugar will get cooked to turn fudge into a candy-like mixture.
- Evaporated Milk: Evaporated milk helps to keep the fudge moist and creamy.
- Chocolate: I used 70% dark chocolate, but if you want a sweeter fudge, use milk chocolate instead!
- Marshmallow Fluff: Or the jet puffed marshmallow creme, either will work!
- Vanilla: For added flavor.
Here’s How to Make It
Step by Step Instructions
- Prep Pan: Line a 9×9 pan with a double layer of food wrap and set aside. (not pictured)
- Heat Butter & Sugar: Measure the butter, sugar and evaporated milk into a large, heavy bottomed saucepan or casserole dish. Set over a medium high heat and stir until the butter has melted and the sugar has started to dissolve. (photos 1-3)
- Measure Temperature: Keep heating the mixture until a sugar thermometer reaches the soft ball stage at 234F. Make sure you keep stirring the mixture to prevent the butter and sugar from burning at the bottom. (not pictured)
- Add Remaining Ingredients: Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the chocolate until it has all melted. Stir in the marshmallow fluff and vanilla until no streaks remain. (photos 4-7)
- Add to Pan: Using a heat proof spatula, scrape the mixture into the prepared pan, spreading it out so the top is smooth. Don’t worry if you have a layer of melted butter separating on top of the fudge, this will disappear as it cools. (photo 8)
- Cool & Slice: Cool the fudge completely at room temperature before slicing and enjoy! (photos 9-10)
Expert Tips
- To cool the fudge more quickly, you can pop it into the fridge or the freezer. But keep in mind that fudge is best enjoyed at room temperature so don’t let it get too cold!
- Don’t over cook it! Once the temperature hits 234 F, you want to take it off the heat. If you cook it longer, it will be dry and crumbly when it is set.
- Store the fantasy fudge in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks! To ensure that the pieces stay separate, place layers of parchment or wax paper in between them.
Frequently Asked Questions
Fudge will always turn out best when you use a candy thermometer. This will ensure that you cook the sugar mixture to exactly the right temperature, which will create fantasy fudge with the perfect texture! Keep in mind, a candy thermometer is not the same as a meat thermometer. So make sure you are using the right kind of thermometer that can withstand the high heat that sugar is cooked to!
Absolutely! The original fantasy fudge recipe has chopped walnuts in it. Feel free to add 1 cup of chopped walnuts, or you can add chopped pecans!

Omigosh The Parent Trap! That was way back when Lindsey Lohan was still pretty cool. Wow. Now I feel old too haha. I definitely agree with you about Oreos–Golden Oreos are totally awesome to eat alone, but I’m not the biggest fan of the originals either. I’ve never tried them with peanut butter though! These cheesecake bars look absolutely amazing. I’m definitely going to have to make them!
