A classic peaches n’ cream combo gets a fun twist in this milkshake with the addition of drizzled caramel sauce and candied pecans! You’d never guess this decadent dessert is so easy to whip up!
You know how different experiences can elicit different kinds of emotions, and the memory of those experiences even years later can bring back the same feelings? A lot of people talk about music-memory and how a particular song takes them back in time to a certain experience or time of their life. When I hear Joshua Radin or Vultures by John Mayer I think of my first year in college when my bestie and I listened to those tracks a hundred thousand times. And there’s no way I can hear Turn Around by Bonnie Tyler without thinking of a road trip I took with a few friends in high school. We put that track on repeat and belted out that song so many times we lost our voices and had to lip sync at our choir competition a couple days later.
And smell-memory. Don’t get me started on that. My grandparents life in Vista California, just minutes away from Oceanside Beach. Ahhhhh so many times I walked that pier. Right where the pier starts there’s a bunch of jasmine bushes and when the afternoon sun gets really hot, the smell of the jasmine and the sea salt is overwhelmingly gorgeous. Whenever some lady walks past me wearing NightBlooming Jasmine from Bath and Body Works, I can’t help but think of all those summers I visited my grandparents and the trips we took to Oceanside Beach.
But what I’m really getting to here is taste-memory. Food brings back memories and emotions just as strongly (okay probably more strongly for me cause I’m a foodie-obsessed gal) as any other kind of memory. Whenever I eat pretzels dipped in Nutella, I think of the first time I went to Lake Powell with my husband’s family just a couple of weeks before we got engaged. For some reason that food combination was the official snack of the trip and we must’ve gone through 2 or 3 big containers of Nutella spread before the week was through.
The memories that come with food aren’t always good though. Like spaghetti. Might be a little TMI but let’s just say it made me suuuuuper sick one time when I was 12 or 13 and I’ve never been able to look at spaghetti the same way ever since. The sight combined with the smell sends me over the edge. I run from spaghetti. Which is why you will never find a recipe for it on this here blog. Sorry you spaghetti-lovers. If you find yourself craving a good recipe for it, I’ll point you in the right direction for another blogger who will help you out.
Peaches are my favorite fruit. I could eat them all. day. long. And there are two big memories that I think of every single time I eat a peach. (Which is a lot, since they are my favorite fruit ya know.)
The first memory is of my first experience with fresh peaches. Now, it may not have been the very first experience with peaches because my mother probably fed me little baby jars of mashed peaches and green beans, I’m sure of it. But this is the first memory with peaches and I think of it as my bonding experience. It’s nothing elaborate, but I remember that when I was 5 or 6 years old my best friend in the world lived right next door to me. We did everything together and our moms dressed us in matching skorts outfits. No that is not a typo, I grew up in skorts and overalls. Secretly I wouldn’t mind if the overalls came back but I think I could do without the skorts.
Annnyway, I remember that my best friend in the whole wide world right next door had a big peach tree with humongous peaches. When you’re little everything looks giant I guess. We would run out to the backyard, pick a couple of peaches, wash them under the spicket in their backyard and sink our teeth into the tastiest thing I’d ever eaten. We ate so many of those peaches, the tree could scarcely keep up with the demand.
My other top-two peach memory is a trip I took with my family about 5 or 6 years ago. My family is massive in size so vacations did not happen when I was growing up. We went camping and that was the extent of it. And I love camping, I do. But this trip we went down to St. George Utah and stayed in a condo (with air conditioning and beds and everything – woah) and the condo had it’s own pool right outside, about 15 feet from the back door. I remember laying on one of those blow-up floaty beds and eats hoards and hoards of fresh peaches. I laid there thinking, this has got to be what heaven is like. Sunshine, swimming pools, and peaches.
And on that note…. let’s dive into these milkshakes shall we?!?
